villa sleeps 10 near Greve, Tuscany Chianti WhenApril 2003, 1 week LocationIf you like cuckoos in the AM, rosemary "hedges" 60' long, acres of Olive trees and a vineyard or two, then this is for you. Just outside of a small town - Greve. Sits high on a hill looking back toward the town. Idylic, quiet and very private. Then again if you don't, this is not the place for you. Nearby AmenitiesYou must drive to everything, up and down a winding road, but it is pleasant. Groceries, etc. are in Greve about 3km away. Town has pretty much whatever you need. We found the enoteca's could stock enough for our thirsts and never run out. The House/ApartmentAn excellent renovation ... one room had a beautiful icon over the bed. There is an annex or small house separate from the main house that has a double bedroom .. really a full apartment with kitchenette. GardenPool very nice ... lots of rosemary and some flower gardens. Lawn well maintained. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasExcellent shape ... none complained. Huge downstairs patio dining area as well as a formal dining room. Three level living room. Good size kitchen leading out to another patio. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms were nice especially master bedroom. Bathrooms were spotless. Most were shared except master and annex. KitchenWe cooked about four nights and with ten people we had no trouble using anything or getting in each others way - save for the empty wine bottles of course. Problems or BonusesThe owner lives on property and speaks no English. But he was more than gracious. Even brought over a CD player and speakers for us to play music. You need to like to drive cause you are 30 minutes from Firenze and on a large hill. Fine with me! Agency and Representatives (and price)rentvillas.com was very helpful and the place was at least as nice as advertised. In fact with more pictures you would like this place even more. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? If I wanted a place to stay that I could write a novel, use as a base to explore Tuscany, or simply veg around the pool - you couldnt do better here. We planned 2-3 days in Firenze and ended up going only once. Yeah I would if you twisted my arm. Things to do in this areaHmmmm.... we ate lots... bought about 50 bottles of wine (for research purposes of course), and drove as far west as SAN GIMIGNANO and as far south as Montelchino and of course day trip to Firenze. Places to visit GIACHI GRAZIA RICAMI GREVE, LA BOTTEGA DEL CHIANTI, L'OSTERIA DI COLTIBUONO, Volpaia (any restaurant), FATTORIA DEI BARBI MONTALCINO This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
