Review 795: Costa degli Angeli, Casa Kristina
house sleeps up to 4 in Badolato, Calabria
October 2004, 5 days
Badolato is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for an authentic and relaxing southern Italian experince. After taking an arranged one week bus tour of central and northern Italy, my husband and I rented a car and drove from Rome to Badolato. The drive down from Rome was a breathtaking experince and well worth the 9 hours or so it took us to arrive.
Our five day stay in Badolato was more relaxing and enjoyable than we ever imagined it would be. We arrived in Badolato mid-afternoon and were immediately greeted by local men sitting in the piazza playing cards and strumming guitars. Since we arrived a little earilier than we thought we would, we decided to look around before we were to meet someone from Costa degli Angeli. Although we spoke no Italian, the locals pointed us in the direction of our rented home and led us to an English speaker to assist us.
The rented home was absolutely beautiful and sparking clean. The 500 year old house we stayed in was tastefully remodeled to provide all the modern conveniences (satellite TV, new appliances, etc) while keeping old world charm with hand painted tile and hand carved furtniture.
During our stay we traveled by car to view nearby castles, local shopping districts, historic churches, and, of course, the beautiful beach. This was a trip that we will never forget!
