2bed/1bath apartment in Castello sestiere, Venice WhenApril 5 - 11, 2004, one week LocationExcellent location in the Castello sestiere of Venice, a ten minute walk from San Marco and/or the Rialto Bridge but a few minutes out of the normal tourist path. Loved the area. Dead quiet at night. Not a sound. Nearby AmenitiesA small but well-stocked grocery store one minute away. Five minutes from a good coffee bar. Area restaurants were a little too touristy for us if we walked towards San Marco but in the other direction were more get-real trattorias. The House/ApartmentThe small building was in the process of being renovated although we only saw workers a couple of times during our stay. It seemed to consist of three or four other apartments. It seemed like we were the only inhabitants during our week. GardenNo outside sitting area or garden. A pretty canal a minute away. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasClean, comfortable furniture. Two love-seats in living room. Very clean and comfortable although the dark beamed ceilings made the rooms rather dark. Bedrooms/BathroomsExtremely comfortable queen-sized bed in master bedroom. Twin beds in second bedroom. Very nice down comforters on all beds. A tiny bathroom with no shelves and no storage space but clean and functional. Decent shower, no tub. KitchenKitchen was small but thoughtfully laid out. Half size refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave. Small tv in kitchen. All appliances were new. Kitchen was equipped enough for us to easily have breakfast and lunch in the apartment. I'm not sure that I would have been happy cooking an elaborate dinner but it had the basics - pots, pans, colanders, dishes and glassware for six, basic gadgets, tea kettle, coffee pot .... Problems or BonusesUp two narrow flights of stairs that were a pain in terms of luggage. Other than that it was a more than adequate rental. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was efficient, professional, polite, and accomodating. The onsite person went out of her way to accomodate our needs. She spoke enough English to help us and the advise she gave was useful and accurate. The pictures of the place and the published information was accurate. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, I would stay there again. BUT we were a family of four - two teenagers. I think the tiny bathroom would be tough for two couples to share. It wasn't luxurious but it was comfortable for the week. I would have liked better views and more light. On the other hand, I loved the location. I guess it depends what one's priorities are. Things to do in this areaIt's easy to get to many Venetian neighborhoods from this apartment. I liked hanging out in Campo Santa Maria Formosa which was five minutes away as well as Santi Giovanni & Paolo also five minutes away.
