Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 824: Owner, Villa Sole
2bed/1bath apartment Treiso, near Alba, Piemonte
April 2004, 5 nights
The apartment is on the top floor of a home located in Treiso. The home is a modern home that has beautiful views, lush landscaping, and a swimming pool. Treiso is a small town located 6 km. from Alba, and the house is on the edge of town. The apartment is very private and peaceful. When you check-in, you are given a remote opener that opens the security gate into the driveway.
You could walk up the road and be in the center of Treiso in 5 minutes. There was a small grocery store in town, a bank, and several restaurants (one of which never appeared to be open).
The apartment is in a home that is modern, and there is only one apartment. You enter the house from the back and climb up one flight of stairs to reach the apartment. The apartment appears to be relatively new and everything is in perfect condition.
There are two balconies that we were told we could use. One of them is accessed directly from the apartment. It is a smaller balcony but has a table and chairs. It also has a clothes line for drying. There is another balcony/terrace that is accessed from the back of the house, and it is larger with another table and chairs. The second balcony is where you are served breakfast (if you choose it) if the weather permits. Additionally, there is a nice seating area around the pool. The yard is very well maintained with nice flowers, shrubs and statues.
The apartment is absolutely immaculate! The furniture may not be brand new, but everything is incredibly clean. The living room could seat 5 or 6 comfortably, and the eating area in the kitchen seats 4. The rooms are very large and spacious. The living room has an excellent reading light which was very nice for us. There's a TV that has cable (CNN, MSNBC, etc.)
The larger bedroom has a king-sized bed that was very comfortable. The view from the bedroom is shown on the website... beautiful. Nice linens. Plenty of storage in the bedroom.
The bathroom is very large and has a stand-up shower. There is also a washing machine in the bathroom and a hairdryer. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. As I mentioned before, everything is incredibly clean!
We did not cook complete meals in the kitchen, but it would certainly be possible to do so. There are plenty of dishes, pots and pans. All dishes and glasses are nice quality. The owners have included a lot of nice extras (tablecloths and matching napkins, for instance) in case you do want to eat meals at home. The fridge is large, and there is a stove and oven.
The owners stock the fridge with juices, soda, and water if you want them. There is a small fee for using these. The owner's son has a vineyard so they also have several bottles of wine in the apartment that you may purchase as well.
Problems or Bonuses
No surprises at all. The owners were wonderful and made us feel right at home. The apartment was spacious and comfortable. It's a great rental for this area.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The owners, Renzo and Silvia Meinardi, are charming people. We were told to call them when we arrived in Treiso, and Renzo drove into town to meet us. He speaks English quite well, but we communicated with Silvia through our pathetic Italian and a lot of body language. Both of them were very warm and welcoming, and they were genuinely concerned that we have a good visit. They made a few of the restaurant reservations for us, and even treated us to Silvia's homemade lemoncello. The website includes pictures of the apartment and the house, but I think they both are even nicer than they appear there. The apartment is really quite large and it's hard to tell that from the pictures.
When you arrive, you are given the choice as to whether or not you want breakfast each morning or not. You are also given the choice as to whether or not you want the apartment cleaned daily. We had breakfast one morning only and chose not to have the apartment cleaned since we were there only 5 days. The cost for us was 80 euro per day without breakfast or cleaning. I think the cost is 90 per day if you have breakfast and cleaning.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay here again. I think this would be an ideal place for a family to stay if they wanted to be in this area and have a pool. It is close to Alba so you can easily get into the city, yet it is very quiet and peaceful. Definitely recommend it.
Things to do in this area
From the apartment, we visited Alba several times as well as smaller towns such as Neive, Barbaresco, La Morra, Serralunga, and others. We went on one of the hikes which is available through the tourist consortium and enjoyed seeing the countryside as we walked through vineyards and trails. The castle in Serralunga is interesting, and they do have tours (in Italian). I've written several restaurant reviews for places we enjoyed.
