Review 829: Rome Sweet Home, Agency Review
2003 (did not stay there)
In December 2003, I rented an apartment from Rome Sweet Home for a June 2004 stay. After clarifying the cancellation policy in writing with the reservation agent, which was stated differently in 2 areas of their web site, I sent in my 30% deposit.
Because of some changes in plans, I cancelled my reservation in January 2004. According to the cancellation policy, of which I had a hard copy, I was to receive a full refund of my 30% deposit if I cancelled 90 days before the reservation date.
After 5 emails within a 3 week period, I did not receive a response from the agency. After my second phone call to the agency, I was told that it would take "2 or 3 days" for the credit to show up on my credit card. After 2 more weeks, I still did not receive the refund. I then called American Express and disputed the charge. They, in turn, contacted the agency regarding the refund.
I just received a letter from Amex stating that the charge will be refunded and will be credited to my account in the next billing period, May 2004. That is 4 months from cancellation to refund.
When I first inquired about this apartment, I received prompt and very informative responses regarding the area, the apartment and other apartments in Rome. However, when I requested a refund, they were not very forthcoming or accommodating to my requests and quite rude when I spoke with them.
My suggestion is ... Do Not use this agency.
