villa 3bed/2bath near Pienza, Tuscany South WhenSeptember 2003, one week LocationSuperlatives cannot describe first impression of waking up and gazing over the valley to the monastery where the English Patient was filmed. The entrance is off the Castelmuzio main street, however the setting is completely rural, as the villa is surrounded by an olive grove and has sweeping views of the Tuscan hinterland. Nearby AmenitiesThe villa is located in the small town of Castelmuzio so a 2 minute stroll takes you to the town square where groceries, bakery, bar and excellent coffee are available. More facilities are available at Pienza only 20 minutes by car. The towns of Montelpuciano and Montelcino are a 30 minute drive. The House/ApartmentThe building is approximately 130 years old. GardenThere were a number of secluded outside areas. Near the olive grove was sheltered and very peaceful on a hot afternoon. Off the villa there is a pergola area for al fresco dining. The pool is set alongside the olive grove and is impossible to leave on a sun drenched afternoon. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe villa was amply catered for and very comfortable. We were able to have 12 comfortably seated for an extended evening meal. Bedrooms/BathroomsMy family with two young children stayed with my parents. It was important that their were two bathrooms. The beds were so comfortable an afternoon nap often beckoned. KitchenThe kitchen is well appointed for preparing feasts, making cakes with kids. We loved the kitchen so much, we never ate out. Problems or BonusesThe weather was stunning in early September with cloudless days. The impression of being deep in the Tuscan hinterland, yet on the main town avenue was the highlight. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency were thoroughly warm and welcoming to ensure we had a Tuscan treat for a week. The reality surpassed our expectation. We were stunned by the setting when we arrived. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would love to stay here again. I dream of staying here for a week with some close friends. Things to do in this areaVisiting the historical towns of Montelpuciano and Montalcino are a must. An afternoon horse and cart ride is a great way to immerse yourself in the valleys of the countryside. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
