Review 846: Summer In Italy, Villa Mariapia A
2bed/2bath apartment in Praiano, near Positano, Campania
April 24 - May 1, 2004, One week
Villa MariaPia A is located in the pretty town of Praiano on the Amalfi Coast. The apartment is built into the side of a rock cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. Both double bedrooms open onto a beautiful large terrace and when you open your eyes in the morning, the view of the sea and sky through the double french doors is unbeliveable!
The Hotel Continental, next door, has a restaurant and coffee bar. Nearest shopping for groceries is located on the main street of Praiano located approximately 1 mile from the apartment. It is possible to walk to the shopping area but local bus service which stops at the apartment driveway is also available. The local shopkeepers are unbeliveably friendly and helpful and their produce is top quality and delicious.
The aparment, Villa Mariapia A, is modern construction with a new kitchen and appliances. The apartment was in excellent shape. There are two apartments in the building, Villa Mariapia A and Villa Mariapia B.
There is a small garden area adjacent to the apartment with a pool. The apartment has a very large sun terrace overlooking the sea. It is private to the apartment but not to the extent that one would consider sunbathing au natural.
The furnishings are new, clean and comfortable with sufficient seating for four adults.
The two bedrooms were furnished with ample closet space, dressers and mirrors, and two queen size beds. All bed linens, towels and window coverings are done in matching colors and tastefully coordinated.
The apartment has a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen with large refrigerator and gas range and oven. All cooking and eating utensils are provided, new and of qood quality.
Problems or Bonuses
There was no electric toaster provided for those persons who like toasted bread with breakfast. (Pauline's Note: You hardly ever find toasters in Italian vacation rentals.)
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Summer In Italy is AAA+++. They provide English language service and are excellent to communicate with by way of email. Their website is exact and very accurately reflects the property. However, they failed to fully describe the excellent hospitality and friendliness of the owners.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
The property was fantastic and the weather cooperated 100%. We enjoyed taking the sun on the terrace during breakfast and relaxing lunches. Giovanni and Mariapia and their wonderful family were very gracious hosts that made us feel at home. They even opened their home to me on the first Sunday of our visit so that I could watch the San Marino Grand Prix on their large screen TV and even provided an added treat by serving Mariapia's home-made lemoncello liqueur and gourmet delicacies.
Things to do in this area
The Amalfi drive and our visits to Capri, Positano, Pompeii, and Ercolano were unforgettable. It is possible to take the local bus service from the apartment directly to Positano and also Sorrento where you can catch the high speed ferry service to Capri. Shopping in nearby Positano will fulfill every wish.
