apartments in Montepulciano, Tuscany South WhenMay 15 - 22, 2004, 1 Week LocationPolitian Apartments is located in the town of Montepulciano, on the south end. It's on a small street near a church. The apartments are located on the third floor of the building on Via del Poliziano. The apartment was quite peaceful and comfortable. With the windows open, we enjoyed the breeze. There was no need for air conditioning during our stay. It was cool in the evenings, but there are extra blankets in the armoire. Nearby AmenitiesThe nearest restaurant was Acquachetta, about a 3-minute walk. Just a little further were other restaurants (such as Ai Quattro Venti). A large grocery store is at the opposite end of town, near where the Thursday market is held. In between both are plenty of little wine and cheese shops and a few Alimentari's. The House/ApartmentThe apartment was very nice. It's owned by Giacomo Stuart. GardenThere is a small garden in the back with a table and chairs. It's quite peaceful. Others in the apartment can use this area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe couch and chairs were comfortable. Lighting could have been better, but we moved one floor lamp close to the dining table where we would write in our journals. The apartment was very clean and kept well. Various paintings and prints were on the walls. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe living room had a couch, as well as a fold-out couch, small table with two chairs, fire place, and stero system (with a few CD's for your listening pleasure). The bedroom had a king size bed and was quite comfortable. The pillows were too hard for me, but others may like that type of firmness. The bedroom also had a large dresser, armoire, and nightstand. Both the living room and bedroom have fabulous country side views. Too bad there wasn't a balcony where we could sit and sip wine. But we were quite satisfied sitting at the dining table looking out. The bathroom was a nice size room with tub (no shower curtain), hair dryer (though mine worked much better), toilet, bidet, sink, and even a small washing machine. Outside the bathroom window was a clothes line. KitchenThe kitchen had most amenities one would need on a vacation: refrigerator, stove, toaster, small eating table, soap and towels. There's even a plastic bin where we stored our fresh fruit and vegetables. Dishes, cups, pots, pans, utensils are provided. Everything to cook a full meal was provided. Problems or BonusesI did wake up one morning only to find no hot water in the apartment. We found out later from Giacomo that there was a switch in the bathroom that turns the hot water heater off. One of us must have hit the switch by mistake. It sits very close to the mirror light in the bathroom. Upon arrival at the apartment, Giacomo showed us the place. In the kitchen he pointed out a bottle of wine that he left for us. Agency and Representatives (and price)The price of the apartment was 400 Euros for the week. We felt that was an excellent price for all the amenities in the apartment. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely stay here again, as well as recommend my travel friends to stay at Politian Apartments. It's in an excellent location in Montepulciano. There is street parking, which is unusual in a lot of Tuscan towns. We felt very much at home and for a weeks stay, it was perfect for us. Things to do in this areaSome of our favorite restaurants were Acquachetta, Ai Quattro Venti, Diva e Maceo (the oldest restaurant in town), Grotta di Nano, and Trattoria di Cagnano. We enjoyed market day in Montepulciano where the locals shop for clothing, shoes, and food. I bought a terrific lemon print table cloth for only 8 Euros, a real bargain. From Montepulciano, there are many towns to visit. We felt that Montepulciano was an ideal location for our day trips. We also liked the idea that there were several restaurants to choose from since we were there for a week. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
