Review 957: TuscanHouse, Torre San Domenico

Review by jrm17543 from US

3bed/2.5 bath house in Cetona, Tuscany South

June 12 - 19, 2004, one week

We stayed in a 13th Century Tower, Torre San Domenico, that has been renovated into a beautiful four (4) level home in a small town, Cetona. The tower is located on a very high hill where we were not allowed to park. In fact, we had to park our car at the local grocery and walk to our house.

If walking is a problem, this house is not for you! The four levels meant climbing lots of stairs, so if stairs are a problem, this place is not for you! None of the walking and stairs was mentioned to us when we agreed on Torre San Domenico.

The views were breathtaking from all four levels and the decorating was just beautiful. We loved this place and luckily for us the walking and stairs were not a problem, BUT they should be mentioned. We had three bedroom and 2.5 baths, a large kitchen that was more than equipped and a beautiful terrace to enjoy breakfast, lunch, etc.

Nearby Amenities

Yes, we did lots of walking. The nearest grocery was less than a mile. All up & down hills.

The House/Apartment

This was a 13th Century Tower in excellent condition. It is attached to lots of other units.

A beautiful terrace with roses, roses, and more roses. It was private with a stone wall between neighbors. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was very nice and comfortable. Lots of antique pieces. Lots of chairs in living room and dining room. This place was extremely clean.

Bedrooms were great! Comfortable and beautiful views from all bedrooms. There were enough bathrooms that were so pretty and bathtub and shower in both.

The kitchen is a large room with enough of anything you might want. It had beautiful furniture and we used it everyday.

Problems or Bonuses

Surprise! Yes, all the stairs we had to climb! Kitchen was on one level, the terrace was on another level, the bedroom was on another level and you came into the house on the first level, after walking up a very steep hill. Lots of walking and climbing.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We were very pleased with the agency we booked with. The communication was good and was in English. We felt they left out all the walking and climbing, which should be mentioned in case someone was not able to do all this for health reasons. We paid $1800.00 for one week in June.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would recommend this place because it was beautiful and the views were awesome AND if they were up to all the hill climbing and stairs. Yes, we would stay their again because it is in the areas that we like to visit.

Things to do in this area

There is nothing interesting in Cetona, but is close to all the little towns that are interesting. They have one great resturant we loved, Osteria Vecchia.
