Review 997: TuscanHouse, Fitto
6 bedroom farmhouse near Palazzone, Tuscany South
June 26 - July2 2004, 1 week
Fitto is a gorgeous rental house that was very comfortable for our group; 2 families of 4, 4 adults and 4 teenagers. It was a gorgeous location, high up on a hill overlooking various hill towns and valleys below. It was a steep 15 minute hike from the main road below, and walking distance from the small village of Palazzone. The house was fairly secluded, with only a few houses in distant view. The house was peaceful and quiet, with the exception of an occasional dog barking.
The village was a 15-30 minute walk, and included 2 restaurants, 2 grocery stores, a butcher shop. There was a fabulous grocery store and shopping center about 20 minutes away.
The house was old, with wood beam ceilings, but it was in good shape. It was very spacious, with 7 bedrooms, 3 sitting areas, a dining room and a kitchen.
There was a lovely patio overlooking the pool with an incredible view of the towns below. A front sitting area wasn't used very much, but it too was pretty.
Yes, the house was clean. And the indoor furniture was comfortable and in good repair. The outdoor furniture, on the patio and poolside, was a bit uncomfortable. But we remedied that by bringing out cushions from the living room.
Bedrooms and bathrooms were great.
Kitchen was great. Had most all of what we needed. Plenty of pots and dishes.
Problems or Bonuses
On our first night we asked the agency representative about local cooks. She arranged for a woman to cook our family a traditional Tuscan meal at the villa one night. It was absolutely fabulous. The entire clan enjoyed it immensely. I highly recommend you reserve her for your visit. The cook's name is Laura, and she lives nearby.
It would have been nice to have music (a CD player or something) and the kids would have liked satellite TV.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
TuscanHouse was the agency I dealt with and they were absolutely terrific from start to finish. Zak answered all of my questions promptly, and the financial transactions were painless. Prior to the trip, he sent me piles of maps, tourist guides, and an Italian phone card. He also made suggestions for restaurants and things to do. In Italy, we were greeted promptly by local managers, and they were extremely responsive to all of our questions.
We paid $2,100 for one week. Since we divided this by two families, we felt the house was a real bargain.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would certainly recommend this house to others. We had a terrific time. The house is best for folks that want some seclusion, because it is probably a 30-45 drive to a town of any size.
