Doug Phillips

Doug Phillips is a retired high school teacher, who has lived all his life in the same small town in Eastern Ontario. But don't feel sorry for him – he gets out a lot. He is a regular contributor to Slow Travel, sells on ebay, and has written an unpublished book about a minor league baseball team, as well as several shorter articles of personal interest. Doug and his wife Liz are tremendously proud of their four adult children – Kelly, Steve, Meredith and Brad. Doug is often planning a trip or reflecting on his travels in his Slow Travel blog To Slow Time Down.

Slow Travel Pages

To Slow Time Down - Pico Iyer said it best: "We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world .... And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again -- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more."

Trip Reports

Trip Report 1417: Return to the Luberon: A 10-day return visit to the south of France, following 12 days in Italy and two days in Paris with our two sons.

Trip Report 1396: Roman Holiday: My 2006 Slow Travel Prize was a week in an apartment in Rome. This evolved into twelve days in Italy, based in Rome, followed by two days in Paris in September 2007. There were four of us - Liz, Doug, Steve and Brad Phillips. We had a great time, including two GTGs, a Scavi Tour, a visit to the Galleria Borghese, and an abbreviated sojurn on Capri

Trip Report 1324: Hanging Out in the Algarve and London: Twelve days in the south of Portugal with four days in London before returning to Canada. The Algarve doesn’t get much respect on Slow Travel, but for us it was a great introduction to the concept of Slow Travel, long before we were aware of the term or the web site.

Trip Report 1135: A Traveller in Paris: October 21-28, 2006. A very enjoyable week in Paris in a great location in the Marais, featuring a different restaurant each evening, an afternoon mini-GTG, very smooth transportation connections and local travel. A real bonus was unexpectedly good weather.

Trip Report 798: Footloose in Provence & Paris: (2006 Contest Winner) Thirteen days in Provence and four days in Paris, including some wonderful food and wine, a day in Nice, and an unexpected encounter with "Good Year" - September 10-27, 2005

Trip Report 673: Tuscan Rambles: (2006 Contest Winner) Two weeks in the hill towns of Tuscany, with a side trip to Elba and an unexpected encounter with the Giro d'Italia, May 1-15, 2004.
