Eleanor (and Michael)
Apart from trips on the Norwegian coastal steamer, until a few years ago Eleanor and Michael always holidayed in the UK, favorites were Northumberland, Llyn Peninsula, Galloway and the Western and Northern Isles. Turning 60 and getting their bus passes and free medicines turned into a wakeup call. There were so many places in the world they had learned about in school and had dreamed of visiting.
They took stock of finances and knew they "couldn’t take it with them" and decided to start visiting some of the places on their dream list. Initial research quickly showed that places which were difficult or impossible to get to in their youth now had a tourist infrastructure. They planned in earnest, intending to take their time, soak in the atmosphere of the place and learn something about the history and how it works. Michael is the photographer, so they needed to allow plenty of time for that. They ruled out escorted tours disliking the idea of being tied to a rigid itinerary. Below, they share the stories of photographs of their travels.
When not travelling, grandchild sitting keeps them on their toes.
