Set in a large garden and vineyard the B&B is in the country near the spa towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs (8km). A very peaceful house close to a state forest, away from all traffic and noise. There are 4 bedrooms all with large ensuites containing claw foot baths and seperate showers. The bedroom we were in had a large dressing room. The beds had doonas [duvets] and fine linen. Towels were large and fluffy. One room has a queen bed and 2 single beds. The entrance to the house is an open plan lounge room with kitchen in the corner and a dining table able to seat 8 people. There are also 2 small tables which were used for the evening meal. The guests sat together for breakfast. There is a library with some books and games as well as comfortable chairs to relax in. Breakfast (9am) was cooked - different on both days and enough to get you through a morning of walking, shopping or relaxing at a Day Spa. There is the offer of an evening meal ($40) which we had the first night. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and obviously enjoy the guests. The 2nd night we went to dinner with them at a "locals" restaurant night which was fun. The B&B is in a vineyard and there is a cellar tour and tasting for all guests. Must admit the wine needs to improve! It was cold and raining for the 2 days we were there, and when back at the house we planned to sit in front of the fire and read. Unfortunately the fire wasn't giving out any heat and the ducted heating didn't come on till 5.30pm. We ended up putting the electric blankets on and getting into bed to read. We stayed midweek for $350 for 2 nights. There are many B&Bs in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs and I think I would rather stay in town. If you want a relaxing country experience Barcaldine House is the place to stay. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
