Ghent: Brooderie

B&B right in the heart of the delightful city of Gent, Ghent or Gand over a wonderful bakery/café.

The website below for 'seen it done it' doesn't mention accommodation but it does show a good view of the Brooderie Teahouse [not a term they use but it seems to give a better idea of the place than 'cafe'].

When I first wrote about it, the google search showed nothing under this name! I found it, when searching for B&Bs in Gent in an untitled document. That's in Google now but it still gives the price in Belgian francs!! http://users.ugent.be/~gvdvyver/epigenetics/hotel%20information.htm

Here's what I wrote nearer the time and I don't take back a word of it - except that the prices are obviously outdated.

This might not suit everyone but to me it's a knockout. Downside first: only three rooms, one large one and toilets [shared with café below and rooms above] on the first floor and two rooms, smaller but adequate on the sacond floor.

Now for the plus side: the situation would be difficult to better; near to both the best riverside buildings, the wondrous and famous three towers view and the child's dream of a castle. The café shuts at 1800 but you have breakfast [included] there and its delicious bread of various types with a boiled egg, cheese, cooked meat and jams. I couldn't resist trying one of their cakes on the day of my arrival.

The first floor room is amazing - two sides of the large room being entirely windows and elegant furniture. TV provided but not telephone. The second floor smaller room [I didn't see the other] is considerably smaller but very ample for a single and about adequate for a double.

Single rates for the two rooms mentioned are €55 and €40 respectively - and I would have taken any for a third night if it had been available. Seen-it-done-it
