Location: 38 38' 30.90"N, 28 58' 53.27"E. Please note if you do a Google maps search for this hotel two places come up. This hotel is a little to the south and east of the Otogar. The Canyon View is a six room cave/hewn stone hotel. It is family-owned and staffed by extended family. As with the vast majority of places in Turkey, the owners and staff are welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are as shown on their website. We had the winter quarters. It faces south and although the scuttlebut is that the caves are naturally airconditioned it can get hot. We left the windows and doors open at night to get air circulating. Friends of ours had the very spacious dovecote at the top of the complex. There are many terraces where one can watch the predawn balloon flights and have breakfast. One brother, Mustapha is a balloon pilot. In fact he is the chief pilot and is charged with checking balloons for safety. All sorts of tours can be arranged through them. The breakfast spread was one of the most extensive we had in Turkey. Staff even prepared an omelet on request. Tea is always on in the reception area. There is free parking at the hotel. However, there are a lot of steps up to the hotel and in the hotel itself. Physically challenged individuals may have difficulty. The unique nature of a "cave room" presents certain oddities. One finds tufa flaking off from the bathroom ceiling. However, that is minor when one considers the overall ambience of the room. The rooms are nicely furnished and there is Wi-Fi. The balcony provides a panoramic view of Goreme. Without hesitation we recommend this hotel. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
