Chile: Explora Posada de Mike Rapu

Easter Island

Reviewed by: Fletch from Australia, review #2561

When: February 2009

A luxury experience on Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Explora Lodge - Posada de Mike Rapu - is more than a luxury hotel on Easter Island, it is a cultural experience as well. The tariff (not cheap) is all inclusive - approximate per double: $3000 for 3 days. This includes bar, meals and two excursions a day.

The hotel has 30 guest rooms built around a large central area that has reception, a bar, lounge areas and a dining room. The dining room used while we were there was open air.

The bedrooms are large with windows looking over the countryside to the sea a few kilometers away. There is a very comfortable king bed with luxury linen.

The bathroom was spacious with a spa bath and a wonderful shower-head that gave a powerful spray. The towels are large and fluffy.

The meals were of good quality and standard, and there was a small choice each meal. The wines were average quality from the owners vineyards. The bar staff could mix cocktails or serve any drink you could wish for.

The expeditions gave a good overview of the history and culture of the island. All the guides were locals with a passion for the culture. Comfortable vans drove to the beginning of walks and were there at the end with a cool drink and fresh fruit.

There was a large pool and spa a short walk through the grounds.

From the warm welcome on arrival to our farewell 3 days later all staff were helpful and friendly, making the experience something to remember.
