The staff were really friendly at check in, and a minute later with my name only we received the keys to our room and took the elevator. Our triple room was nice and clean with a huge bathroom with a bath and had big windows. The only thing - it was unusually hot during our stay, but the room didn't have air conditioning. With windows open it was fresh enough at night but noisy at times. We were downtown and people were watching FIFA Soccer World Cup late at night then celebrating, and the street was busy with cars and motorcycles. I always bring my earplugs to Europe as it can be noisy anywhere, so I could sleep no problem. The hotel was really well located with several bars and restaurants, and food to go places just outside handy for affordable meals. The hotel has an Internet point downstairs which was handy and costs 1E per 30 minutes. Right on the side there is a very friendly restaurant/bar serving huge hamburgers and drinks. There is also a gastronomic restaurant "Comme Chez Soi" right in front for fine dining. And the street has numerous cafes and grocery stores. There are several places selling roast chicken towards the train station, which is a 1 km walk away only. Grand place was a short walk from the hotel with plenty places to have breakfast. The farthest end of the place Rouppe has a smelly toilet and could have drunk people at night, but that portion is hidden behind recycling bins, so no need to venture there. Some streets in Brussels were smelly in old part because of sewers. It didn't feel dangerous but just was smelly. But the rest of the place looked really nice. We would stay there again because of the location and the price: 85E for a triple room. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
