Pleasant 3* hotel very near the train station.
We have had several flights in and out of Cologne, so have used this hotel several times. We have used booking.com, laterooms.com and www.hrs.de to book the hotel for a typical rate of about 69 euros per night.
The hotel has two computers available for free use in the lobby. The staff are very friendly. Reception is 24 hours.
A good breakfast is included in the room rate.
The regular rooms are plain and very clean. In some cases, you get a partial view of the cathedral. Superior rooms are renovated and have flat-screen TVs, at least the one time we had one.
Because this hotel is within steps of the train station, it is very convenient when you get off the train, whether you have come from the airport or another city. The cathedral is about 3 minutes walk, and the main shopping area and several museums are about 5-7 minutes walk.
We have also stayed at the Four Points across the street, and prefer this hotel for general friendliness and homeliness and value (although the Four Points has nice staff and a very nice hotel, too).
Minor cons are: very small lift, slightly tricky keys, and an unlocked luggage storage area. You can also use the automated luggage storage system at the adjacent train station.
