Excellent small hotel in quiet side street in the inner district of Vienna. {4 stars}

We booked this online (via the hotel website, though it is a Best Western and can be accessed that way), attracted by the location and the promotional offer of three nights for the price of two, including breakfast.

The location is excellent - in a rather faceless side street with barely any traffic. We certainly heard no traffic noise from our 5th floor room. The sights of the Inner District are very walkable from the hotel.

The hotel looks as if it has had some recent renovation: when walking from the nearest U-Bahn (Herrenstrasse - 5 minutes away) you come across the 'old' entrance to the hotel first. The shiny new entrance is further down. Very pleasant and professional reception staff with perfect English, although they politely indulged my daughter when she practiced her school German ! My request for non-feather pillows was quickly fulfilled.

Our standard room was spacious, a table and chairs in addition to a wide desk, with a separate bathroom and toilet. Everything was very clean. Free wi-fi access in the room , with a terminal downstairs available (which we did not investigate). We had a large bed with two separate mattresses and duvets, which was perfect for our mother-and-daughter trip - double beds are available.

There is no restaurant (just a small bar near reception), but breakfast is served in an attractive large room on the second floor. This is one of the highlights of the hotel - the buffet breakfast was one of the best we have encountered. Plenty of tables, quickly cleared and relaid by the friendly waitressing staff, who take orders for tea, coffee, chocolate and egg dishes cooked to order.

The buffet had constantly replenished supplies of food catering for all tastes - breads and pastries, fruit salad and fresh fruit, many cheeses and meats, salads, yogurts, cereals with different types of milk, bacon and eggs. We ate at various times (they serve 6.30-10.30) and never found the buffet looking sparse or tired.

We paid 288E for three nights including breakfast, which we thought was a bargain for a 4* hotel in such a good position. (This was a non-refundable advance offer.) Everything was very walkable from the hotel and the beautiful and famous Cafe Central was just down the street (recommended for meals or just coffee).

I would happily stay there again and would recommend.
