Nice hotel on Copacabana with good breakfast. Big difference in the rooms - could basic or a suite.

The Windsor Excelsior Copacabana is located on Avenida Atlantica, on Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro. It is a mix between a business hotel and a tourist hotel - there seemed to be equal parts tourists (individuals and tour groups from many different countries) and business travellers.

The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great: a large buffet with lots of fresh fruits and juices. There is a also a small pool on the roof top with a bar and a nice view of the beach.

It is a 3 1/3 star hotel I believe. Because of the strong Brazilian Real currency, and the constant stream of tourists in Rio, hotels there are generally expensive. At the time I visited, the cheapest room (through hotels.com) was US $200.

There is also a big difference between the rooms - some are very basic with a view of the street, while others are suites, some have a bar, etc.

A good hotel but nothing extraordinary. Some people prefer staying on Ipanema Beach, because it is safer and more upscale, but I quite enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on Copacabana.
