Comfortable hotel with character in the historic center of Ponce.

We regretfully only spent one night here while touring Puerto Rico. The lovely city of Ponce deserves more time.

Hotel Melia's entrance is just off the main plaza of the city, but several of the rooms face the plaza. We had room 215 with balcony and lovely view, as seen in the photo. Off season rate was $110 plus tax. We could hear some street noise during the day, but the night was quiet. This hotel has been run by the same family for several generations.

Rooms are clean and comfortable as are the common areas. A few of the furnishings seem a bit worn, but that only adds to the character. Their pool and lounge area looked inviting but we were too busy exploring Ponce to use it.

The Melia has convenient off street parking for $3 per day. Staff is efficient, friendly and fluent in English. A continental breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. Get there early for the best pastries.

The restaurant Mark's at the Melia is known throughout the island for its splendid food. We had a wonderful 20th anniversary dinner here that cost more than the room! (But was very much worth it).
