Second time here and still a charm. Highly recommended.

I returned to the Peninsula after my stay 3 years ago with my daughter. This time my wife accompanied me. Please see my earlier review. My opinion of this hotel has not changed. It is a great value.

This time we stayed for a total of 12 days, at the beginning and end of our time in Turkey. They stored our luggage without charge for the time we were away.

Although Hussein no longer directly manages the place day to day (he has 2 other hotels now!) he has recruited young, energetic, friendly and knowledgeable individuals. Erhan, the current manager, was on hand to answer all questions and provide suggestions regarding dining and shopping. But he did this only when asked and did not shill for a particular store.

The place remains spotlessly clean with ample hot water at all hours. A small LCD television with limited satellite channels is now provided in each room.

Apart from the call to prayer from the nearby mosque the hotel is very quiet. Yet it is no more than 5 to 10 minutes from the major sights in the Old City. It is on a street ending in a staircase so there is no vehicular traffic.

The website accurately reflects reality.

Boutique service at budget prices!

My daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Peninsula for a total of 7 nights. We were both very pleased with the rooms, service, breakfasts, and location.

Mr Huseyin Gultekin owns this hotel and the Hanedan across the street. He is a hands-on owner who manages a staff of family and friends. He is knowledgeable about the city and even if he did have a friend or relative in the carpet trade he did NOT mention it to us!

The rooms are simple and spotlessly clean. Linens and bath towels are changed every day. All rooms are en-suite and have modern fixtures. There was hot water at all hours. The individual air conditioning is welcome during the summer and there is central heating in the winter. All residents have access to wireless internet in their rooms.

My room had a closet, desk, 2 night tables, a small table, 2 chairs, a small desk and stool. There was ample room. Windows opened.

The hotel is on a small pedestrian street. This limits street noise. We never found noise to be a problem either from the outside or other rooms. It is 5 minute walk to Aya Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, and Topkapi Palace.

The rooftop terrace offers splendid views of the sea and of the Blue Mosque. It is here that a full Turkish buffet breakfast is offered in the room cost. Mustafa presides over this part of the operation. On offer are freah buns and bread, hard boiled eggs, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, yogurt, juices, jams and filter coffee and tea.

Huseyin, all desk staff, and Mustafa speak English and willingly intervene on guests' behalf with Turkish only speakers.

At the time of writing, high season rates for a double room were 45Eu/night. For those wishing to pay in local currency or dollars, Huseyin looks up current exchange rates on the computer. VISA is accepted. Longer stay rates may be negotiable and low season rates are less. Pick up at Istanbul airport can be arranged at an extra cost (less than a taxi). I highly recommend pick-up for first time visitors to Istanbul.

Those touring other parts of Turkey may store extra luggage at no cost at the hotel to await their return to Istanbul.

In summary, the Hotel Peninsula (not to be confused with the Peninsula Hotel, a chain hotel) is a suberb value. Its location, service and cleanliness are top notch.
