This guest house sits on a beautiful lake a 5 minute drive from Mallacoota. We stayed here on a road trip up the east coast of Australia. It is about 6 hours from Melbourne and 7-8 hours from Sydney. We travelled during winter and know the weather is likely to be cool and perhaps wet. The reviews were all positive and we looked forward to our stay. It is a guest house with ensuite rooms, but with a main lounge room and a communal kitchen. Our room was one of the larger ones opening onto the wide verandah, but was still pretty small. One reviewer called it like a cabin. The bathroom was clean and the shower was very good with lovely hot water. The bed linen and towels were good quality. The lounge room has chairs and couches and looks comfortable. Some of the chairs need some TLC (the website photos must be getting old now). The kitchen has new fridges and stoves and has plenty of utensils to cook for a big group. The cutlery and crockery were good quality. There was tea and coffee and milk in the fridge. Breakfast was provided: cereals, various breads to toast and tea and coffee... Why a neutral review? We felt the welcome could have been more pleasant. It was a cold day and our room was very cold. There was an oil heater in the room that we put on, yet it wasn't effective for hours and there was an ineffective electric blanket on the bed. The open wood fire wasn't lit which would have made a lovely welcome. The manager did set it so that we could light it which we did. It was the only heating in the room and as the room was large it wasna' very effective. There were only a few guests but it would have been a nice gesture to have the room heater on and the fire lit. There is a walking track along the lake to Mallacoota and other nice walks in the area for warmer days. We only stayed one night - the weather and the cold place beat us. I think staying with a group in the warmer weather would be wonderful, but I wouldn't stay in winter. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
