Vancouver: Listel Vancouver

Good location, comfortable rooms, good price.

We spent 3 nights at the Listel Vancouver recently based on comments about the hotel on the message board. The Listel is really a "tarted up" Best Western, so do not expect total elegance and interesting architecture, but the rooms were a good size (300 square feet), the furnishings were lovely and the lobby area is pretty. The bathrooms are your standard Best Western bathroom - small sink area and counter area just off the entrance, doorway to toilet and small tub/shower. Good quality toiletries are provided.

The building is a low rise - 6 stories - which is nice because most hotels in Vancouver are highrises with sealed windows. We could open a window in our room, but only a small upper window. The view was out to Robson Street (which is a very busy street - but the hotel is set back so you did not get much street noise) and you could see the bay and the North Shore between buildings.

It is a little over the top with furnishings - there are standard rooms (on the lower floors), museum rooms (featuring Native art works in the hallway) and art rooms (featuring art in the rooms). We were in a museum room.

They advertise highspeed internet (Fat City), but the signal was too low. However there were about 4 other highspeed [wireless] networks that we found from nearby offices - so we just hopped on one of those.

We did not try the room service. The hotel has a restaurant (O'Douls) and is close to many coffee shops and restaurants. Valet parking was $19 per day and was good service.

My only complaint is the secure elevators - you stick your room card into a slot in the elevator before it will work and it did not work the first time and after that it frequently took several swipes to work.

The price was only about $100 USD per night and I booked the day before.
