Our home away from home in Berlin.

We head down to Berlin regularly and unless we are celebrating a special occasion, we tend to stay at the Mövenpick Hotel Berlin. The location cannot be improved upon as the S-Bahn station is right across the street and it would take no more than twenty minutes to get to just about anywhere in Berlin.

There are plenty of cheaper hotels around Berlin but we prefer the Mövenpick because the building, which used to be the old Siemens Building, has retained historical characters and charm that are quintessentially Berlin. If my memory services me right, the renovation project has won an architectural award or two. Though the hotel is certainly stylish, it is not one of those design hotels where all the attention has gone to form over function.

The spotless rooms come with a luxurious bathroom, high ceiling, and fluffy pillows and duvets. Their room service prices are reasonable and food is surprisingly good for a chain hotel. I am actually looking forward to ordering their salmon fillet served with risotto.

During a low season, double rooms should be available for around E130.
