Wonderful situation near Ovanlinna Castle, Savonlinna - the site of the Ballet and Opera Festivals

Savonlinna is a beautifully situated place in the Finland Lake District, built on a number of islands that are joined by bridges. There are thus numerous lake fronts.

The most scenic of these is that facing the Ovanlinna Castle and within a few hundred yards from the castle is the hotel. I believe they do meals in the summer but only breakfast in winter - like 31 May! However their advice on where to eat nearby was spot on.

It hasn't got any frils but all the basics are good. I can't remember what we paid but the website gives the current rates.
