When: October 2004

A nice hotel for relaxing, with a buffet restaurant, bar, and a wonderful steakhouse. Directly on the coast. Most staff were exceptionally friendly.

Transportation to the hotel from the port or airport is arranged by the hotel. I was greeted at 12:30a.m. by a friendly face who understood I was tired and treated me great. Upon entry into the room, I called and asked if there was a room available with a full bed rather than two twins, was told no, but upon arriving back to my room the following afternoon, my two twins had been turned into one large bed. I found the twin beds a bit larger than Italian twins, and the small bed that first night was quite comfortable.

The breakfast food was okay but nothing outstanding. As the majority of visitors (and half the residents) of Malta are British, I found most things geared towards the British palate and habits.

I opted for the full-board, all-inclusive package. The total cost for three days of all-inclusive plus one day of straight board only (having arrived at midnight and not able to take advantage of anything offered) was €440. Included in this price was my room with a balcony and sea view, full breakfast, lunch and dinner at choice of three restaurants (one was buffet for all meals, one was a bar with local foods, and one was an upper-scale restaurants offering five choices of steak as well as other foods), all beverages included (water, soft drinks, coffee, tea, wine, beer, cocktails, etc.), unlimited quantities of all foods and drinks during meals and also evenings at the bar.

There is a large outdoor seawater pool, a smaller freshwater outdoor pool, and included in the price was unlimited use of the spa and exercise room (indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom) plus a pressotherapy session (like a massage). There are many spa services available as well on a paying basis.

The hotel is situated along a few kilometer stretch of boardwalk along the coast and nearly directly in the center of Sliema, with a bus stop in front of the hotel. The staff was very helpful in giving directions and suggestions of where to go and what to see. This is a good base for discovering Malta and there are a few tour agency offices next to the hotel. Within easy and short walking distance is the town with all sorts of shopping, bars, cafes and restaurants.

I recommend this hotel for a few days' stay, although had I known of the abundance of affordable restaurants right nearby, I would have opted for the half-board pricing which included room, breakfast and a choice of either lunch or dinner. I would have eaten lunches at outside restaurants, opting for dinner at the hotel’s steakhouse where I felt I got more than my money’s worth with high-quality food and wine.
