Salt Spring Island: Salt Spring Inn

132 Lower Ganges Road, Ganges

Reviewed by: Colleen from CA (moderator), review #2670

When: 2009

Lovely historic small hotel in the heart of Ganges Village, just across from harbor. Comfortable rooms & good service. 10 minutes from Long Harbor ferry terminal.

Room #4, photo by Colleen!

This small hotel is in a perfect location - we were able to walk just about everywhere we wanted to go, and had our choice of restaurants in the area. In addition to souvenir shops, the shopping center across the street included a coffee shop, book store, supermarket, bank, post office, hardware and sporting goods stores.

We stayed at the Inn for three nights in early July. The seven guestrooms are upstairs from the hotel restaurant and bar. Note that it's an old building and there's no elevator. My Deluxe room (#4) was at the end of the hall, and had a queen bed with en-suite shower and toilet, fireplace, and overlooked the restaurant patio tables below and the harbor across the street.

D had a Standard room (#1) at the head of the stairs, with a sink only in the room and no fireplace. Separate men and women washrooms were across the hall. Her room also overlooked the harbor.

Rooms were simply furnished, with comfortable mattresses and soft, elegant bed covers. The flat screen TV received lots of channels in English and French. The hotel has free wi-fi for guests, and my room had a small desk area that was perfect for my laptop.

The weather was fairly warm during our stay, and air conditioning would have been nice - but fans were provided in each room. As long as I kept the window open and the fan blowing at night it was comfortable. There was minimal street noise, and the restaurant stopped serving at around 10pm so that wasn't a bother, either.

Everyone we dealt with at the hotel and in the restaurant was very friendly and helpful. Check in went quickly, and we got to meet the pretty four-legged "assistant" Rita who was sprawled across the reception desk when we arrived. :)

Standard room (high season) CAN$105/night, Deluxe room CAN$145/night.

I really enjoyed my time at the Inn, and would love to stay there again!
