A nice resort for families in a gorgeous setting, but with service lacking.

This was our second year at The Westin in St. John. Our kids loved staying here last year, and it really does cater to families. We really enjoy St. John... it has some beautiful beaches. However, we are not planning on returning to the Westin again, as the service there, which was quite comical last year, actually seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

The hotel has beautiful grounds, but I've never encountered such bad service. It's not that the service is rude, but it is very incompetent. A stay here requires you to have a lot of patience, and usually several phone calls to correct mistakes or to actually make requests happen... for example, it took me 10 hours and 5 phone calls to have someone pick up a bag of laundry from our room. I've encountered slow service at island resorts, and I'm not expecting service such as at a Ritz Carlton or a Four Seasons resort, but this place is a joke.

We encountered blunder after blunder, and just had to laugh about everything so that it didn't ruin our vacation, but we certainly will not plan on staying here again.

However, St. John is definitely worth a visit, and we still love the beaches, the snorkeling and had some wonderful meals in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. If or when we return to St. John, we will most likely rent a house rather than stay at a resort.
