A good choice for a light breakfast and a great place to pick up some specialty breads and bakery products in the west end of Toronto.
Artisano Bakery Cafe occupies a freestanding building on a corner along Islington Avenue between Bloor Street West and the Queensway. It is open from 6:30am to as late at 11:00pm 7 days a week.
Four of us went there for breakfast on Sunday February 4, 2007. The cafe is dominated by the bakery, including the display of breads, cookies, muffins, etc. and the large ovens behind the interior glass walls. There is a modest selection of breakfast choices including French Toast, Frittata Panini, Breakfast Pizza, Peameal Bacon on a Bun. The cafe was very busy with a weekend family crowd. Bakery and Cafe orders are done at separate cashes. Cafe orders are picked up at a side counter. The atmosphere was pleasant, the surroundings were bright, and the young staff was friendly and efficient.
Before we left, we purchased a couple of loaves of bread and some muffins.
The cafe was such a winning concept that I asked one of the staff if there were other locations. At present this is the only one, but there are plans to open two more in the near future.
Artisano Bakery Cafe would be a good choice for a light breakfast or a soup 'n sandwich meal if you are in the area.
