Six of us had an enjoyable Birthday meal on March 10, 2007 in this converted house in the shadow of Casa Loma.

Directions: A short walk from the Dupont subway station in the direction of Casa Loma.

If you like cozy along with a very good meal, the Corner House might be the place for you in Toronto.

Six of us had a table on the ground floor almost next to the wine bar. The restaurant is in a coverted house. The original layout of the rooms in the home does not appear to have been greatly modified, with the result that there are several small dining areas on both floors. Seating is limited so reservations are essential. We arrived by both car and subway.

Service was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Our food was excellent! I had the Goat cheese appetizer and one of the special "Creations" - a rack of veal with potatoes and spinach - see the photo. Other members of our party had the Cornish Hen or scallops dishes along with other appetizers. Two of us ordered dessert - Cheesecake and Cherry Crepe - and three of us had coffee, including an expresso. The waiter obviously heard about us talking about the birthday part of our dinner and included a candle and a chocolate syrup "Happy Birthday" with one of our desserts. Our wines included a half-bottle of Chablis - Chateau de Maligny '01 and a bottle of Pouilly-Fuisse - Domaine Luquet '02. Our bill was $331.00, plus tip.

As we were leaving we had a brief conversation with Michelle, one of the owners. The restaurant has been in the same location for 33 years, with Michelle and her husband operating it for the past 8 years.
