When: 2007

Italian restaurant featuring eclectic interior decorations, friendly but not very efficient service and only so-so pasta and pizza dishes.

Big Papa's Trattoria is part of the street front on Bloor Street West. Four of us went there on Saturday, February 3, 2007. We arrived without a reservation around 7:00pm and had no trouble getting a table.

The restaurant tries hard to be very Italian - from the Ape car sitting in the middle of one of the rooms to the "prodotto tipico" along the walls and the the humourous comments and descriptions on the menu- but it didn't work for us.

Our waiter admitted he didn't know any Italian and was more interested in informing us of the regular special evenings at the restaurant than in focusing on the menu and daily specials. We eventually ordered 2 pizzas, Ziti, and a pasta special - none of which were any better than so-so. Along with a liter of the house red wine, 2 coffees and one ice cream for dessert, the bill was approximately $100, excluding the tip.

Other menu selections may be an improvement on our choices, but there are so many restaurants in the area, we will most likely not return.
