Several people had recommended Lamont's in Perth but we didn't get a chance to try it before we left Perth. So we made it a point to have lunch at the Margaret River restaurant. The restaurant is located in the northern Margaret River area near the village of Yallingup. The restaurant over looks a lake. You can sit on the deck or in the dinner room. It was windy so we choose to sit inside at a window table.

We started with some fresh local bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We also each had a glass of the Lamont wines. I choose the riesling and my husband selected the sauvignon bland. The riesling was dry and nice. We nibbled on the bread and watched the ducks and geese on the lake.

I had the whole baked rainbow trout. It was served with a fennel croquette, local aspargus and a tomato beurre blanc. The trout was excellent. It had a nice salty finish and was perfect with the tomato butter sauce. The fennel addition to the potato croquette was very nice. My husband had the Pemberton marron. Marron is a specialty of southwestern Australia. It is a large fresh water crayfish which is locally farmed. We had been wanting to try it after passing several of the farms on the drive from Albany to Margaret River. The whole marron was served with roasted baby potatoes, vegetable and a butter sauce. The taste was similar to lobster but less sweet. We decided not to have dessert or coffee since we were on our way back to Perth.

The service was excellent. Even with the gourmet food and beautiful setting, we felt relaxed and welcomed even in casual attire. I wish now that we had also tried the restaurant in Perth.

The main dishes were $30-$33AUD. Total for two with wine, tax and no dessert - $85AUD
