Tanglehead is a local brewery with both great beers and great food. There is also live local music in the bar.

I read about Tanglewood in a magazine after arriving in Australia. It sounded like a place we would enjoy with good food and good beer in a relaxing environment. It has recently opened and is very popular. We arrived at 6pm and we were able to get one of the few tables left for the evening. I would recommend making reservations.

We started with two of the hand-crafted beers. My husband had a pint of the IPA, clean, crisp and hoppy. I choose the Southern White Ale which was excellent. I love a great white ale and this was one of the best that I've had. Good balance with some nice spice.

I love risotto and couldn't resist the King Prawn Risotto. It had crispy leeks, fresh spinach and several grilled prawns. My husband had the Atlantic Salmon Nicoise Salad; grilled salmon served over a bed of potatoes, green beans, olives and lettuce. We split a side order of a garden salad.

We like it so well we went ahead and made reservations for two nights later. It was just as good on our return. We had the same beers. My husband had the Pink Snapper fish and chips and I had the tenderloin steak with a wine mushroom sauce and mashes (mashed potatoes). I was a little disappointed in the mushroom sauce since it used dried mushrooms instead of fresh but the steak was excellent. We split a salad again.

Tanglewood also has a great local wine list. For dessert we choose a couple of local dessert wines. I had a sparkling chardonnay and he had a muscat from Cape Howe. Perfect ending to our stay in Albany.

Main dishes were between 25-30AUD, Total price for 2 with alcohol and tax - 75.00 to 100.00AUD
