This is an informal, fun place with good fresh food.

Four of us went to Zambri's, an Italian restaurant, as they were opening at 5 p.m. on a Saturday evening. By 5:30, it was more than half full, mostly locals since it is away from the harbour and in a shopping center with London Drugs, a grocery shop, bakery, etc. Parking was not a problem.

We ordered three antipasti to share: fried mozzarella, an octupus salad, and mussels/squid in a tomato based sauce ($8-12 each) - all pretty good.

The bread, however, was pretty bad - small loaf with big hole in the middle, that turned to nothing when you bit into it. We did get a lot of laughs. It's actually too bad since there's a decent bakery just across from the restaurant.

For our main, we had about ten choices from the "primi" which were dinner-sized pasta dishes and five choices from the "secondi". We ordered gnocchi in meat sauce (pretty good); salmon in chanterelle mushroom sauce (very good although the sauce is pretty rich); lamb shanks in tomato based sauce with cubed potatoes (also very good); and grilled veal chop with potatoes and greens (very good).

We also ordered braised greens (chard, kale & beet greens) with garlic & chili for contorni - good although spicy hot. The pasta dishes were $16-20; the secondi were $25-30; contorni was $6.50.

For dessert we ordered a tiramisu (pretty good) and 2 mini-chocolate creme brulee with vanilla ice cream. (One said it was okay; the other didn't like it much).

We had house white (chardonnay) and house red (combo of cabernet, merlot, and sangiovese grapes). Both were okay.

By the time we left at 7:30, there was a line. I didn't really pay attention as to when the restaurant filled up.
