Review 1412: Owner, Holiday Cottage

Review by Larrianne Corder from CA

2bed/1bath apartment on farm, Oudewater, Netherlands

June 2001, one week

This is a two story apartment that is the front part of the owner's house. It is a large spacious rental that is about 2 kms from Oudewater and 24 kms from Utrecht. There is a canal in front of the building. This is a residential area but there are farms nearby and across the street. We really enjoyed the area.

Nearby Amenities

The shops are a little far to walk but would be great to bicycle to. The nearest supermarket might be 3kms away. Not too bad. We enjoyed the shops and the bakery in Oudewater.

The House/Apartment

The building was in fine repair and appeared to have been well taken care of. This was the only rental that the owners have, I believe. The bedrooms are located on the second story and the bathroom is located on the first story. There is an elevator in the apartment.

There was a lovely garden area with a table and chairs that we enjoyed. It was peaceful and relaxing and well maintained.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is very nice and comfortable. The rental was spotless. There was plenty of seats. There is a washing machine and a drying rack that we made use of.

The bedrooms are large and airy and comfortably furnished. The bathroom was large with a tub and a shower curtain with a handheld shower attachment but there was a hook to place the shower head in position for a decent shower.

Very nice large kitchen with full size appliances. I believe there are two tables to eat at, if you desire. It was a nice kitchen for cooking and there was a good assortment of utensils, pots, pans and dishes.

Problems or Bonuses

The big surprise was the owners - they just left the place open for us and weren't breaking down the door to get their money and then we didn't have enough Dutch money to pay them as the ATM would only dispense a certain amount. Alright, another big surprise was how large the place was. Have learned to be sure to rent places with a bathroom on the same level that I sleep on.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owners are wonderful and very easy to work with. They spoke excellent English. Did the reality of the place accurately reflect the published information? Um, it was much bigger than we expected! We felt that we got an excellent bargain with this rental.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Oh, yes, I would love to stay here again except for the bathroom being downstairs. Not fond of that. I would recommend this place heartily but would remind people that they will have to traipse downstairs to the bathroom in the night.

Things to do in this area

There are lots of interesting things to do in this area. Ride bikes, for one. We went to Kinderdijk, Delft, Haarlem, Amsterdam, The Hague and Gouda. We visited cathedrals. We walked. Went to the beach. Visited some castles and had Mexican food in Amsterdam where our table overlooked a canal and we could watch boats come and go. We took the train to Amsterdam.
