Review 1660: Owner, Destination AMS
1bed/1bath apartment in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Apr 2005, 7 days
The apartment is located in the De Pijp area of Amsterdam. It's quite well located as it is just a few feet off the wonderful De Pijp market. The apartment is located in a fairly large complex and is on a nice street.
We loved the area as we could walk everywhere. There are some really nice cafes right by (in the market, less than 15 feet away from the apartment). Also, there is a fairly nice grocery store within 3 - 4 minutes from the apartment where we bought milk, coffee, water etc. We bought fruits (the best strawberries I've had) from the De Pijp market which is quite famous for fruits and chocolate.
The building was in good condition and has an elevator. Entry is secured through keys. The apartment itself was quiet and very peaceful and is located on the third floor. It is well maintained and extremely well stocked with sheets, towels, a hair dryer, washer-dryer and plenty of storage space. It has a bedroom (right near the entry) and a spacious living room. The kitchen is in the room adjacent to the living room.
There is a small balcony in the apartment but we never spent much time there. There is no garden or pool. I recommend not using the balcony space much as opening the balcony door can let in noise from the street market (not vehicles or anything, just market noise).
The furniture was in good shape. There is a comfortable sitting area and a spacious formal dining space for 4 in the living room. The apartment also has a nice breakfast nook with some green house plants near by. The apartment was clean and well maintained. It's about 600 square feet I think. The living area is really nice. There is a high quality sound system along with a TV and VCR. The owners were really thoughtful -- they'd left plenty of CDs, movies etc. They'd also left plenty of guide books and info about Amsterdam in the living space.
There is 1 bedroom. One thing I should point out -- the bed is on a raised platform that occupies 80% of the bedroom (think japanese style bedroom). This may not be everyone's cup of tea but we didn't mind & it was no real bother to climb off that in the morning. There are plenty of coat hangers to hang your clothes (its quite IKEA style). There is a TV in the bedroom.
The kitchen was lovely. The owners are very thoughtful. They'd left us fresh ground coffee and plenty of good quality spices, salt, sugar, olive oil etc. You could really cook in here if you wanted to. They have 2 french coffee presses and plenty of cutlery. They'd even left us fruit. There were plenty of pots and pans although we never really cooked in there.
Problems or Bonuses
I was surprised by the kindness and the generosity of the owners. There's free internet access in the apartment as well, just bring your laptop and you're good to go. We loved our stay in Amsterdam and the apartment was a big part of that.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Anne and Miklos were great to work with. They were very professional. Miklos gave us the tour of the apartment and handed us the keys. The price is great -- 98 euros per night. I promise you that you won't find a better deal in Amsterdam.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would gladly stay in this apartment again. We've recommended it to a number of our friends.
Things to do in this area
You're right by the Heinekin brewery, you should definitely go there. You're also 20 minutes away (by foot) from all the big museums in Amsterdam. The area has wonderful restaurants. Our favorite was a little eating joint called Maoz Falafel.
