2bed/1bath up to 5bed/3bath near Isabel II, Caribbean WhenFebruary 2006, two weeks LocationCasa Vivo Grande is located in Bravos de Boston, which is a suburb of Isabel II on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. The house is fenced in with private parking. It is in a residential area made up mostly of locals. The casa can be rented in whole or in part, hence the 2bed/1bath up to 5bed/3bath. We rented the entire house. There is a yard, your very own chickens and cats and a hammock. The best part of the house is the rooftop which overlooks the bay and presents one with incredible sunsets. Nearby AmenitiesAlthough it is possible to walk to restaurants and coffee shops, it is best to drive since the house sits on top of a hill, which allows the amazing views. The House/ApartmentThe house is in a quiet residential neighborhood. Although there are roosters and chickens clucking constantly providing most of the noise, there are also wild horses to offset this one detraction. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, which also has the roof access, back veranda with hammock and a huge front porch. The downstairs has two bedrooms and 1 bathroom, its own kitchen, living room and back patio. The laundry area is upstairs. GardenThere isn't a pool but you are on an island and surrounded by water. If you are able to find it, there is a access to a little beach with some of the best snorkeling on the island. Can I say enough about the rooftop area and the huge front porch? Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe casa was immaculate and the caretakers were incredibly helpful. The furnishings were rattan and wood. The owners provided everything one could want to be comfortable. All the upstairs bedrooms either have a fan or air conditioning. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and three bathrooms were more than enough. The bathrooms were very nice, although the main bathroom upstairs drained very slow. KitchenThe kitchen was usable but not gourmet by any means. However, it was adequate to prepare meals. We cooked several huge family style dinners, including linguini bolognese and paella and even had a barbeque. Problems or BonusesThe only bad experience was the damned roosters. Agency and Representatives (and price)The caretakers spoke a little English. They went out of their way to help, even calling friends to come pick us up at the airport with our extra luggage. Because we stayed for two weeks and just at the beginning of the season, our rates were actually a little below the published rates. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would stay here again. I would recommend the casa to those who want an authentic experience in Vieques. Things to do in this areaVieques has one of the brightest bioluminescent bays in the world. The beaches are sandy white with turquoise-colored waters. For those who want more night life, Esperanza is only twenty minutes away. There are mountain biking trails, scuba, snorkeling and just plain sun-worshipping on the beaches. My favorite restaurant was Cafe Media Luna. There are other excellent restaurants in the area and in Esperanza. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
