3bed/1bath townhouse in Halifax, Canada WhenJuly, 2006, 7 nights LocationThis two-story townhouse is close to central Halifax, set among similar older structures. It was peaceful in spite of the fact that the street is only one block from Quinpool street and major shopping. Nearby AmenitiesOne block from the interesection of the principal streets, Quinpool and Robie, it was perfect for five adults who had one car but wanted to go their separate ways. Bus service to all Halifax is only steps away. Downtown is within easy walking distance for younger people; the botanical gardens and commons are within walking distance for the less hardy set. This house is located in the middle of the longest block in the world so you are hardly aware that at one end is a Tim Horton's and at the other, a bakery with heavenly aroma and outlet store. Cut through the alley to Quinpool and you have a major grocery store, Wendy's, bank, a variety of restaurants, and the Canadian Tire store. This is like no tire store you have ever seen! The House/ApartmentThe house was in perfect shape. Two bedrooms upstairs with double beds and another bedroom with a supersized king bed. The one bathroom was upstairs. Washer and dryer, detergent furnished, was in the cellar. The living room, dining room, and kitchen downstairs were good-sized and contained everything you could want. Link directly to East Coast Sunshine GardenWe enjoyed the private patio with table, chairs and umbrella, surrounded by a privacy fence. No pool, but there was a nice grill furnished. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture was nicer than you might expect, very clean, and plenty of room for all of us (5 adults.) Two vases of fresh flowers and a welcome bowl of fruit, chocolate, and snacks. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were perfect. Only one bathroom, but we knew that when we rented the house. KitchenThere was a plentiful supply of any kind of pots and pans. Well, I don't enjoy cooking in any kitchen, but if I had wanted to spend my vacation cooking full meals, everything was there to do so! Problems or BonusesNo surprises unless having not a single cause for complaint is a surprise. Agency and Representatives (and price)I dealt with the owner personally in renting the property, had very limited contact with the onsite person (a son), all dealings most cordial. July seven-night rental was $900 Canadian plus $80 cleaning fee. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would defintely recommend this place and stay there again myself. My best friend did join our family, as a matter of fact, and he loved it just as we did. Things to do in this areaThis is Halifax and there are plenty of recreational and historical sites in the city. No need to mention all the things that a tourist brochure would tell you. Nova Scotia is a marvelous, civilized place and it all seems so peaceful for a Texan who longs to get away from it all. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
