Review 2477: Owner, Phildutch Houseboat
2bed/1bath Houseboat in Amsterdam, Netherlands
November 2006, 3 nights
This houseboat is near the Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam which is about five stops from the Central Station. Well within walking distance to major tourist attractions on a lovely canal.
There is a wonderful large food market across the canal and one street behind that is an outdoor market with food and vegetables, very convenient. There are restaurants and bars all within walking distance.
This place was fantastic! It was spotlessly clean, very quiet, there was one main room where there was a double bed and a full kitchen along one wall. Along the other wall was a large window facing the canal with a table that seats four if you pull it our, we ate every meal there and watched the tourist canal boats go by. The other wall was all closet which contained the TV with cable stations, DVD, stereo. There was a lap top computer for your use as well at an extra €5 per day.
There was no garden but a lovely terrace outside the main room with a table and two chairs. There was no smoking inside but you could smoke if you wish out on the deck. It was lovely.
All the furniture in good shape, the main double bed was a bit hard but not terrible, it was very clean and more than enough chairs and tables.
There was another bedroom with two twin beds and a TV in the corner with a wardrobe that housed additional duvets and pillows.
The kitchen was along the one wall with a four burner gas stove top with oven and full size fridge. Toaster and coffee maker provided as well. We noticed a microwave in the cabinet below but did not need it. We cooked at least three proper meals in this kitchen, it had everything really. All the utensils and plenty of pots and pans. It also had a good fan above the stove and loads of cupboard space. It was a pleasure cooking here because you did not want for anything.
Problems or Bonuses
There were no problems whatsoever. We arrived at the houseboat and stowed our bags with Efren the owner and he said he wanted to clean up so we left and came back in a couple of hours. He had left a loaf of brown bread, a big package of soft white rolls, eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, salami. There was coffee as well as tea. There was peanut butter and jam and butter and oil. All the basics were in the cupboard either left by him or other renters.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Efren was great, spoke great English left us to it and dropped the key in the mailbox when we left. We paid €120 per night, which we gave him in cash on arrival. We were able to hold it with a credit card but he did want cash up front which was no problem. I believe his prices remain the same all year round.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would totally recommend this place and have to many already. There are over 60 reviews on Trip advisor most all complimentary as well. The only thing I would make sure of is that I think he does rent out the second bedroom on its own perhaps in the summer when it is busier. I would not want to share this space with a stranger. The main room with the kitchen has a lock and you have access to the terrace only, but you would have to share the bathroom. When we booked this Efren said we would have the whole boat to ourselves. We would not have wanted it any other way. It is perfect for two couples or a couple with two kids as well.
