Review 3082: Berlin Apartments, Apartment #2
Studio apartment in Berlin, Germany
March 2007, 2 weeks
The location is in Prenzlauer Berg, a trendy area just outside the "center" of Berlin. It's a great base, one block away from a main street, the Schonhauser Allee. The apartment is in a large building with a dozen or so other apartments. I loved the area; lots of shops and restaurants, and plenty of public transport right down the street.
There is a mall with a bakery, cheese shop, deli, and grocery store across the Schonhauser Allee, and a great health food store up the Schonhauser Alley, and a Kaiser supermarket a few blocks the other way. On my street alone there were a number of restaurants ranging from Spanish to Middle Eastern to Sushi.
The building was not historical and was in fine shape. There was a family above me that made quite a bit of noise at certain times of the day, which could be aggravating, but this is city living, right? I was there in the winter so heard very little street noise at night, but I think it could get a bit loud in warmer months. It is a side street, but still well traveled.
There is a little private balcony outside which is a wonderful place to sit and take in the local life of Berlin.
The furniture is all in good shape and comfortable and the apartment was clean.
There is a huge, comfortable bed. The bathroom only has a shower - no bathtub. Plenty of hot water.
The kitchen is a galley kitchen, with a stove top, microwave, a toaster and electric kettle, but no oven. There are plenty of plates and utensils and it is a good kitchen for cooking, though I didn't do much of that there with all the restaurants around.
Problems or Bonuses
The only bad things were the noisy neighbors upstairs. Instructions for the apartment were only in German - would have liked some simple instructions for the basics in English. The toilet brush was kind of gross and needs to be replaced. Otherwise, this place is great!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The owner lives on site and speaks English; he was very easy to deal with. Everything was as promised. I only paid €300 a week.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would absolutely stay again and would recommend the apartment to others. It's a great base with lots to do in every direction, and is clean and comfortable to come home to. I felt very "at home" in this apartment.
Things to do in this area
I loved the little wine shop downstairs - nice people, great prices. And there are lots of other cool little shops everywhere. It's like a smorgasbord of things to look at and do, and if you run out of things to look at and do, the rest of Berlin is just a few subway stops away.
