2bed/1bath apartment in Montreal, Canada

When

December 2007, 8 days

Location

The apartment is in Mont Royal, the best area of Montreal just a short walk from Square St Louis. Rue Drolet is a very pretty street full of houses painted in bright colours and well located near the Metro. We absolutely loved staying in this part of Montreal.

Nearby Amenities

Although the Metro was only a few blocks away, we chose to walk to most places, including downtown and over to the St Lawrence River. It was heavy snow conditions however we found the walking relatively easy. There are plenty of small grocery stores in the vicinity and a supermarket a little further away. There is a very nice fruit/vegetable market around the corner and down two short blocks. To get there you pass a delicious chocolate shop. On the corner of Rue Drolet is a fantastic Vietnamese fusion restaurant, where we ate twice. Montreal has wonderful places to eat and many of them are located in this neighbourhood.

The House/Apartment

The apartment has been recently renovated to a high standard. The kitchen is very good and the beds are extremely comfortable. On arrival the apartment was immaculately clean and toasty warm from the central heating. The apartment itself is typical of the Montreal style and is attached to another residence. No outside noise could be heard. We are a family of four, being parents and two adult children in their twenties and we found the apartment to be spacious enough for us. During our stay the temperature outside plummeted to -20 degrees and heavy snow fell. Inside the apartment was warm a cozy.

Garden

There is a small area outside the kitchen that could be enjoyed on a fine day.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

This accommodation is extremely comfortable. All the furnishings are of top quality and well maintained.

The apartment has been furnished to a purpose. Thought and care have gone into setting it up. The owners have not furnished it with their left over furniture as so often happens.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Very comfortable beds and very pleasant rooms. Only one bathroom but it was large and functioned well. Excellent washer and dryer.

Kitchen

The owners have spent a lot of money on the kitchen. There is a large stove and stainless steel appliances. Plenty of dishes, cutlery etc. We cooked on several occasions and thought we would like to take the stove home.

Problems or Bonuses

The bonus with this apartment is the owners. A delightful couple with whom we felt instantly comfortable.

They provided us with valuable local knowledge, maps and recommendations. Dealing with them during the booking process was a delight. Best owners we dealt with on entire trip.

Not being familiar with Montreal we had no idea where to stay but have to say we could not have done better as Rue Drolet is fantastic.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We used VRBO, which we find always reliable. The owners speak English and French. The apartment exceeded our expectations especially for the off season rate we paid.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, yes, absolutely. We hope to stay there again. This apartment is the one we all think and talk about when remembering places visited on our four month trip around the world.

Things to do in this area

So much to see in Montreal, even in freezing December. Highly recommend the restaurant on the corner (Blue Lotus?), and of course you have to eat at Ruebens (famous for smoked meats) downtown. A climb to the top of Mont Royal is not to be missed. The underground shopping provides a respite from the cold. Just wandering the local streets looking at the pretty houses is a pleasant experience.
