Review 3542: Stay Amsterdam, Westerstraat Apartment (#1542)

Review by Melodee50 from CA

2bed/2bath apartment in Amsterdam, Netherlands

April 2007, 4 days

Located in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam, we would not have found this apartment without our cab driver. Down a walk just a little wider than my suitcase between two tall buildings we found the door to our apartment. To say it was private might be an understatement. Everything in Amsterdam is close to everything else in Amsterdam. I loved the area.

Nearby Amenities

Westerstraat is home to many restaurants, an Albert Hein grocery store, a laundromat where a little kitchen witch-looking woman will help you do your laundry for a small fee, a coffee shop, and a weekly street market.

The House/Apartment

I was so taken by our little walkway and being tucked into a little niche that I really didn't pay attention to its architecture. But it was very modern inside. It did have a spiral staircase up to the second floor where the two bedrooms, a toilet and the washer and dryer were located. It was very quiet.

Downstairs was a full bathroom with a huge tub that took way too long to fill, a well-stocked kitchen (spices, drinks, as well as pots, pans, coffeemaker, dishwasher...), a dining room table for six, a large living room facing a wall of windows looking onto the tiny patio.

You can view the apartment directly: Westerstraat Apartment.

The tiny patio held a tiny table and two chairs, just right for al fresco dining or having a smoke. It was private. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Comfortable eclectic furniture, throw pillows, and wall hangings made it feel quite homey. The apartment was immaculate.

Each bedroom held two beds that could be separated or pushed together. The upstairs bathroom was just a toilet, no sink. The downstairs bathroom was large. All were very clean.

The kitchen was fabulous. It had all the necessities with the added bonus of oils, spices, drink mixes, coffee, tea.

Problems or Bonuses

It was great. The only bad part was having to leave.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We made the reservation on line, met the owner at the apartment where we paid in full with a security deposit. The owner met us again upon our departure, returned our security deposit and wished us well. Her English was excellent, there were no surprise fees.

The apartment looks just like the photos.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This apartment is better than mine at home so, yes, I would recommend it. It has a dishwasher, people!

Things to do in this area

Everything in Amsterdam is close to everything in Amsterdam so this is a tough question. Anne Frank's house is down the street. You can catch the Opstapper, a shuttle whose route is along the Prinsengracht. You can go to the Leidseplein, a hot bed of fun activities and close to the Museumplein and Vondelpark.
