Review 3593: Villa Lipa, Apartment

Review by teaberry from PA who is a SlowTrav Contributor

apartments in Zadar, Croatia

Here is our back patio, photo by teaberry

June 2008, 1 night

The apartment is located across the harbor from old Zadar, in a vacation neighborhood setting. It was set back from the street, in a quiet area, nicely landscaped, huge blossoming gardenia bush right outside the front door. Parking spaces out front.

Nearby Amenities

Within walking distance was a bakery and a market for groceries. There were several restaurants in the neighborhood, but we went over to old Zadar for our dinner.

The House/Apartment

The building is maybe 25 years old, divided into about four apartments (ours was 1bed/1bath), two floors with a center hallway and stairs. We stayed on the first floor. We had a front and back patio, very private with louvered doors. Everything was well-maintained, although we did have trouble locking the main door - there was a trick to it and had to ask a neighbor for a little help; then all was fine.

The outside sitting area were pretty, both front and back. In the front, you enjoyed the amazing scent from the gardenia; in the back, it was very private, with a lovely seating area and tiled floor. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings were modern with clean lines, and in excellent condition. Big living room with couch, cabinet, chairs, TV, good lighting and good ventilation.

Bedroom had two double beds and an armoire. One night table. The beds were comfortable, sheets clean and crisp, nice pillows. The bathroom was roomy and clean, and had a towel-warmer. Nice shower with good water pressure. Towels were soft.

The kitchen was marvelous - large, spotless, lots of cabinets, equipped with table/four chairs, refrigerator, plates, flatware, utensils and some cookware.

Problems or Bonuses

This place was a gem. No surprises - we were highly pleased with our choice of accommodation in Zadar.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Leri met us at the apartment, and helped us register. She spoke "enough" English to finish our transactions, but we did get a little lost finding the apartment, and her English wasn't quite enough up to snuff to get us there easily. But we managed, and what she lacked in English she more than made up for in hospitality and good will. We paid 52.5 for one night.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, I recommend this apartment for a lovely stay in Zadar. It is across the harbor from the Old Town, but we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. We took a little boat for 4 kuna ($1) from our side of Zadar to the Old town, with a very nice gentleman who has a little rowboat shuttle service. Sweet!

Things to do in this area

In Zadar, explore the Old Town. Check out the sea organ - the ocean's music is beautiful. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
