1bed/1bath cottage at Stokes Bay, Australia WhenJuly 2008, 3 nights LocationOur cottage was one of seven located in a rural setting (80 acres). On first arrival I thought the cottages might be too close together, but the way they're situated gives a feeling of privacy. All cottages have a view of the ocean and are surrounded by wildlife - Kangaroos grazing by day & wallabies joining them at night. There's about 15km of dirt roads to get to the location, but we didn't find them too difficult, even in the rain. Stokes Bay is on the north coast on KI and we found it a good location to head off to see the other attractions the island has to offer. Nearby AmenitiesNothing in walking distance. In summer there is a cafe and a restaurant close by, but they're closed in winter. Parndana had a good bakery and supermarket - about 20 kms away. About 40kn to Kingscote, which is the major town on Kangaroo Island and has a good range of options. The House/ApartmentThe cottage is fairly new (1-2 years) with a bedroom, bathroom, and a combined kitchen/dining/lounge area. Nice deck with a barbecue, but it was too cold and windy for us to use. GardenEach cottage has its own deck with table and chairs - except in winter it would be a good place to sit and watch the kangaroos and the sea. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasModern, comfortable furniture. Thermostat controlled gas heating. Seating for four. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was wonderful! Queen size and a wonderful light, warm quilt. Bathroom had a large shower and water pressure was good. KitchenDecent size refrigerator, oven, microwave. Plenty of cooking utensils, even a decent knife block. Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner was very friendly in all my dealings with her. There was a nice personalised note waiting for us on arrival. We were delayed in arriving due to bad weather and our ferry was cancelled and we appreciated the personal touch. Cost: normally $95 per night (1 bedroom cottage) but as it was off season, we paid $85 per night. Three bedroom cottages sleep six and cost $120 per night for first two people & $13 per person after that. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes! We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends. The only qualification is that because it's fairly expensive to take a car to KI, I wouldn't recommend going there for less than three days.
