Review 3711: Bavarian Forest Holidays, Haus Sterr
Apartments in adjoining houses in Bayerisch Eisenstein, Germany
July 2008, 10 days
Our apartment was only a 10 minute walk away from the train station. Bayerisch Eisenstein sits at the edge of the Bavarian Mountains. It's a quaint, clean, and beautiful German village with several excellent restaurants, a grocery store, wonderful bakery shop, two meat markets and a few other small shops. Our apartment backed to the woods and from the front balcony we had a view of the mountains.
All apartments in this complex are totally refurbished. Very modern; fanatical attention to detail. Fully-equipped kitchen, living room with balcony; one of the three bedrooms also has a balcony. There are several apartments for rent from these owners. Ours was the entire upstairs of a two-story house.
A beautiful garden in the owner's home right across the lane from our house. Shared with other guests -- but other than at a party -- we didn't even run into other guests the entire stay.
Everything was new -- furnishings, fixtures, lights, bedding. Our family of six was very comfortable in the common areas (living room and kitchen) and we each had our own bedroom with private bathroom for each bedroom.
Brand new beds and linens. Two of the bedrooms are very room; third bedroom a bit smaller but still fine for vacation. Each of the three bathrooms had its own toilet and shower -- all brand new as part of their remodeling efforts.
Kitchen was great. Stove, oven, fridge, sink. Fully equipped with dishes, pots, and basic amenities for cooking (seasonings, etc.) They started our stay with provisions in the refrigerator. We could also purchase from their house across the lane many basic foods, liquids, etc., if we didn't want to walk the five minutes to the store and their prices were the same prices as at the store.
Problems or Bonuses
The hosts, Martin and Margaret, are delightful. Thoughtful, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the area and travel in general. They went above and beyond to assist us when we needed it but never once interfered or got in the way. We truly felt like we had our own house.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We worked directly with the owners, who originally are from England. The pricing/value was phenomenal for the quality of the place. We will definitely return and for a much longer time. The town, the area, and the actual apartment far exceeded our expectations.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely and we already have! When we return in a year, it's the first place on our list to stay.
Things to do in this area
You can grab the regional train and get anywhere you want. Very interesting small towns within 30 minutes train ride. We had no car and really didn't need one. We were there for 10 days and still don't feel we got to experience everything we wanted to. We just ran out of time! This town/region is NOT for those who want the hustle and bustle of the city. It IS for those who want to get away from everything -- to breath clean, fresh air -- and to simply enjoy those with whom you are traveling.
