Review 4361: Ferienhaus Muhlrad'l, Apartment

Review by Kathryn J from OK

1bed/1bath apartment in Mittenwald, Germany

Church in Mittenwald, photo by

October 2009, 6 nights

The apartment was in the village of Mittenwald. It was in a neighborhood that was quite close to the train station, along a small canal. The apartment was fairly close to the apartments next door, but seemed quiet when sitting in the yard. It was a very nice area with a good view of the mountains.

Nearby Amenities

A nice grocery store was a two to four minute walk away. The downtown area was further, but could have been walked in approximately 10 minutes. We had a car and it was fairly cool, so we drove to the main areas of town, including the restaurants.

The House/Apartment

The building looks fairly new and was in excellent shape. I was very impressed by how warm it stayed when it got really cold (and snowed) outside. It was very quiet despite having two to three other apartments in the building. There was an entryway, combination living/dining/kitchen, nice sized bathroom and bedroom.

There was a terrace right outside our apartment and a big backyard with other furniture to sit and look at the mountains. There was no pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The couch had a blanket draped over it and I never took it off, so I'm not sure if it was in bad shape under it. We used the couch and it was comfortable. All the other furniture was in great shape. It was very clean and had plenty of chairs/sitting areas.

The bedroom had a large wardrobe and very comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and very nice with a shower but no tub.

The kitchen was all on one wall of the big living area, but had a full stove with oven, small refrigerator, sink, etc. There was no dishwasher, but did have a microwave, coffee pot, water kettle, toaster, etc. The dishes, pots and pans were adequate - but not fancy. The counter space was limited, but sufficed for simple meals.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner was a family that lived next door. The younger generation spoke good English. It was accurately depicted on the website. There were two minor issues. When we arrived, there was no one there to meet us. We simply went to the TI office and they contacted the owner. When we met her back at the apartment, she explained there was a sign telling people where to come to find them (next door), but the sign was not in English. The washing machine was also very tricky, but the owner made two trips over to the apartment to help.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

Things to do in this area

We enjoyed the village of Mittenwald a lot. We made day trips to Linderhof, Neuschwanstein, Salzburg and Bolzano, Italy from the apartment. We likely wouldn't have traveled so far from the apartment, but the weather was not very good and we hoped we could travel out of the rain - worked with the Italy trip - not so much with Salzburg.
