1bed/1bath cottage on Long Island Bahamas, Caribbean When2009, Two weeks LocationWhistling Duck is a tiny cottage right on the water. There is a larger, main house nearby - but it is empty when the cottage is booked, so you feel totally alone. Nearby AmenitiesYou essentially need a car to get around. There is a wonderful bakery nearby, and groceries can be had about a 5 minute drive away. Key to check when the "supply boat" comes in when booking. If you arrive on a Wednesday (for example), it may be days before fresh veggies, etc. are available. Restaurants are very similar in that they serve burgers and conch fritters. There is one fantastic place called Burgers & Beer that I highly recommend - small, road-side place, but excellent food. The House/ApartmentHouse is clean and pristine, and super-quiet. All you hear is the water lapping on the sand. GardenNo pool necessary. The water is steps outside your door, and there is a gazebo by the water's edge - great for lunch or just sitting and reading in the shade. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe cottage was spotless, and it couldn't have been more cozy. Bedrooms/BathroomsThis is a small cottage, with an open kitchen and small living room area. The bedroom is nicely sized and has door that opens on to a deck with *amazing* water views. Bathroom is lovely. KitchenKitchen is stocked with pots and pans, etc. We cooked in about half the time and had all the tools we needed. Problems or BonusesYes! The neighbor across the road will get fish for you if you ask before he leaves in the morning (can't recall price) Agency and Representatives (and price)Booked directly with pleasant, English-speaking owner. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely! Though I would love to keep it a secret; it's too special not to share. Things to do in this areaDriving to snorkel in the blue cenote, and to find deserted beaches. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
