Review 4531: Homz, #AH02 Kolonaki

Review by Tina from Canada

Studio apartment in Athens, Greece

April 8-14 2010, one week

I found a great website with properties in Athens, I stayed in one of their apartments, #AH02 Kolonaki Penthouse Studio for a week at the beginning of April, 2010. This is a charming tiny apartment with a gorgeous huge balcony. With only a single bed (very comfortable single IKEA bed), it is suitable for one person. It is exactly as shown in the website photographs, a soothing new modern design, with bed/sitting room with desk and office chair, banquette, mini-fireplace (not in use while I was there) two chairs and small dining table. The kitchen is sufficient if you plan to do only a small amount of cooking, with mini-frig, two-ring stovetop, micro/grill and a small number of dishes and pots and pans. Bathroom very nice, with shower stall. Despite the size, it is well organized with a surprising lot of storage space, many drawers and small closet. Very clean with no personal items around. Lovely wood floors. The highlight is the magnificent balcony with views as described on the website.

The area is upscale, safe and lively. Groceries, greengrocers, banks, restaurants, cafes, etc. all close by. Three and a half pleasant blocks to walk to the metro. You can also walk through a nice district to Syntagma Square and even the Plaka and Monastiraki if you like walking. I bought a metro pass for a week for 10 a steal. The telephone appears only to work for local calls in Greece.

The manager, Flavia was very helpful to me before I left, answering questions about the apartment, but also about the area and staying in Athens in general. She arranged for Christos to pick me up at the airport, and sure enough he was there, and Flavia was at the apartment when I arrived to show me the ins and outs as well as the location of the metro and local grocery store. The day I was to leave there was a taxi strike, but Christos said not to worry, picked me up in an unmarked car, and got me to the airport at 3:45am!

I went to conference and a couple of days to sight see in Athens. I would recommend this apartment for one person without much need to cook.
