Review 5154: Mosman Beach Apartments, Apartment

Review by Joanneh from CA who is a SlowTrav Contributor

2bed/1bath apartment near Freemantle, Australia

Mosman Beach Apartments, photo by self

October 2011, week

This place is located just an eight minute walk from the main train line into Perth and is located just north of downtown Fremantle. Grocery is three blocks away, gas station 1/2 block. Ideal if you want to have a car and travel either north or south. Perth is huge so it is approximately 45 minutes from the airport. However has direct access to major highways. Parking in Perth is a headache so hopping on the train to go into the city center (35min) is quick and easy. Parking is the same in Fremantle and the train ride into town is 10 minutes and drops you right on the main drag. Both Perth and Fremantle have excellent free buses - CAT bus that take various routes through both towns.

Nearby Amenities

No coffee shops in general area, Woolworths large grocery store block away otherwise you could take train into town 10 minutes. Several take out places that offered free delivery nearby.

The House/Apartment

Standard apartment building in good condition, good security, pool, front and back patios. Cost was $180 night. Free WiFi. Two bedroom, one bath apartment, with rear patio off master and small front patio with pool. Pay wash and dry.

Two sitting areas one in front one at rear both fairly private.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture in good shape though older, clean and comfortable, Place very clean, host helpful when slight problem came up it was quickly fixed.

Everything as it should be.

Fully stocked with everything you need, open concept, bar and table.

Problems or Bonuses

WiFi was excellent and free, surprise on how easy it was to pick up the train to either Freo or Perth, parking was on the sidewalk everywhere as the streets are narrow.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Books with owners, great to work with, they were on site, helpful and at your service 24/7.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes and No. You really need a car if you want to do any exploring. Access to Freeways out of Perth area super good. If you just want to do Perth and Freo then perhaps a place in Perth proper and take the train or boat to Freo. We on the other hand did a lot of driving going both north to Monkey Mia and south to Albany so wanted handy access to the thru roadways. Freeways in Perth and Freo area and basically what we call through city streets with several stop lights - think 19th Ave. in San Francisco, until you hit the #1. The Airport is approximately 45 minutes from this location and as Perth is growing by leaps and bounds lots of road hold ups even into the city proper.

Things to do in this area

So many thing so little time. Perth City, Swan River, Swan Wine Area, Beaches north of Perth as far north as Monkey Mia, Back Country. South you again find winery's, beaches, Margaret River tourist area, many national parks, forests etc. You could go some place different every day for several months.

In Freo the Market I thought was a bust but at the harbor several Fish & Chip places, the Cappuccino strip. Perth tons of shopping till you drop and more, Great free tour bus routes.
